Default 351W to 427 in 77 CobraII

Hey guys,
I just picked up a 351W to upgrade my 302, but now I'm thinking about stroking the 351W to a 427 and then dropping the engine in. Has anyone done this with their Mustang II and can tell me some good news about the final product and tips on stroker kit and balancing of the new crankshaft. Also what is a good price for a machine shop stroke job? Thanks,

BTW car is a 77 CobraII with a C4 tranny and LSD w/4.10 rear gearing. The 351w engine is already bored .030 over and has trick flow aluminium heads, 1.7 rockers, 750 edelbrock carb/intake. This is mainly a street car (might drop to 3.55 rear gearing).

It's a fairly easy job. Buy the rotating assembly alraedy balanced, with matching flex plate and balancer.

Installation is fairly straight foreward, with two exceptions.

1. Dependin on the rods used, you may have to clearance the bottom of the cylinder with a small notch.

2. Canton pans are pretty famous for clearance issues at the #8 cylinder. A ball peen hammer will fix that.

More cubes = more air. Don't even consider using stock heads/intake.

yes if you buy a stroker or any rotating assembly, pay to have it balenced, It Makes loads of difference. you definatly want a fairly high flowing intake. your lookin about 1300-1500 for the stroker depending on who you get it from in addition to any "extras" you decide to add on while your at it. you could be looking at the mid 400 horse and well into 500 ft-lbs of torque( according to Virtual engine dyno)

The 427 should make Plenty of power for ya(Almost too much for a un-molested uni-body IMHO). Id go fuel injection and a retro-fit roller cam(i like comp cams 260HR grind personally, good and torquie on low end)
This is the next phase of my engine upgrades in the near future.

If you go with a 427 stroker, upgrades to the transmission, rear end, and chassis are a must. You'll want subframe connectors, a 9" rearend, and you'll have to really think about what to do about a transmission since only the stock C4 and RAD bolt into the Mustang II's tunnel with no issues.
