Question Questions about 1978 MustangII GHIA 2.8L V6 exaust system

Hello everyone! The question I would like to ask is: is it safe to put headers and duel pipes on my Mustang?

Yes you can.

There are all sorts of things to consider when doing so, such as where you want the pipes to exit, what kind of mufflers you want to run, what size pipe you want, which style of header you want to use, etc.

Your best bet is to swap in the headers yourself and then have the car towed to an exhaust shop that does custom systems and talk with them to discuss what you can do (they'll more than likely need the car there for measurements and to see what they have to work with, as a lot of exhaust shops haven't done a system for a Mustang II) and go from there.

The only likely complication for you will be tracking down a set of 2.8L headers, as they're not easy to find.

Thumbs up

Yep, the hardest part will be finding the headers themselves.

A lot don't realise that the early V6 Mustang II's ran a full dual exhaust from the manifolds back to the two-in/two-out muffler located beside the gastank, with a single H-pipe below the tranny.

It can be a PITA figuring where to run the tailpipes if you don't want to exit them in the stock location, as there is very little clearance between the shocks, leafs, rear subframe, and gastank. Planning and fitting are critical.
