Default wolfman417s introduction. 1978 Mustang II value?

hello,this is wolfman417
I have a 1978 mustang11 mach1 with a 302 v8,c4 auto.I am thinking of building it up as it is a light car with a v8.
I was wondering what it is worth in real life, before I spend mich on it.

Restored to a 9 out of 10 = $5 - $12,000
Depends on economy, but if someone wants it they will pay big time for a near perfect Mustang II.

Clean daily driver 6 out of 10 = $3 - $5,500

These are my estimates from watching E Bay and Craigs list very closely for the past 1 1/2 years. Classic 70's cars although not the best years are going up in value every day it seems and are hard to find, for example a mid 70's Gremlin X with 301 V8 and 4 speed in primo condition sold for $9.000 just a few months ago and a cherry 74 Pinto wagon went for $6500 V8 Vega conversions are fetching top dollar as well.
Modded engine and good rust free condition may add a few dollars to above and peak more interest especially from the younger crowd.

Heavily modded engine and driveline done well will expand the buying market and fetch a few more dollars, but as with any modded car, usually does not recoupe the cost of the mods.

I was lucky enough to pick up a 77 V8 auto in 2007 for $1,800, it was a southern Nevada car with NO RUST, good paint and decent interior all stock. If I had cherried it out I probably could have gotten $5000 plus on E Bay. I threw about $2000 in to it to get it to it's present state and have been offered $6,000. I plan on rebuilding the engine to about 300 hp and adding some chrome goodies under the hood because I do a lot of shows but probably would not get this back if I sold it.

It all depends what you want the car for, they are a great base to make a lightweight drag car or something different on the show car circuit. Best of all when they are running well they are a blast to drive kinda like a go cart on styroids.

Mustang II values have gone up in the last couple of years, in a recent article in Collectible Automobile they listed a nice Cobra II in good condition would fetch 10,000 and up. But on average most IIs in good condition are around the 4,000 to 6,000. It really all depends on Model Rarity and the bottom line being what would you pay for a nice rare II? I recently bought a Tangerine coupe (needs some resto)but in original condition for under 1000. There are still IIs out there that can be bought for less and they are getting harder to find. With the recent downturn in the economy, it would be a good time to buy one.

I bought my 1976 Mustang II just over a year ago as a barely running, peeling paint, no brakes, no interior rattletrap for $1000

Fixing the brakes and tuning it up got it driveable, and an old man offered me $3500 for it... I told him no.

As with any car, it's worth what someone's willing to pay for it, I had my 1974 Mustang II listed all over the internet for $250 with a few hundred dollars worth of spare parts AND a spare engine and spare set of wheels and tires and had no takers for 6 months before I sold it to the junkyard for $235

Thanks for the info.I was busy on mine week.Pulled the trans to do a flexplate and decided to rebuild it while it was out.
I paid 900.00 dollars for mine. It's all there except for the a/c compressor.A little rough,Needs paint, but straight,no rust, needs headliner.I just put for new 60series radials on it,had a 2 1/2" flowmaster muffler at the shop so I put it on with mandrel bent 2 1/2 pipe from the stock y-pipe back.got an old 500 holley 2barrel laying around I'll probably throw on and see what I can get out of a 302 2 barrel, single exhaust.(I work as a tech in a shop that just got a chassis dyno,so it will probably be our dyno car for a bit)A friend has a set of 1965 289 heads and factory 4 barrel intake. If I keep it I'll rebuild the shortblock, put a little cam in it and throw those on with a 600 holley.
I think someone on here said they had done a 2 1/4 dual exhaust through the single hump crossmember and a dual inlet, dual outlet muffler.anyone know the muffler type and number.I'll be needing duals by then.
thanks
