Default Anyone know which headers will fit a 1977 Mustang Cobra 2

I've tried to put different sets of headers and have had no success. I don't have issues finding a set that will fit the head and motor but I am having clearence issues. Either they clear the finderwell or the bell housing to the transmission or they don't. I can't find a set that will clear everything. The motor is a 302 V8 and the transmission is a C4. I was determined for about 2 years to put headers and change the heads but now I'm thinking about putting the stock exhaust back on. I don't want to do that because I won't get the horsepower I desire.

You say you are not having trouble finding headers? What brands and types are you using. 302 headers that are not specific to the Mustang II although advertised by some companies WILL NOT FIT THE II.
Headman and Hooker are the ONLY 2 companies still making Mustang II headers. The Headmans are UGLY and the pipe comming off the #1 goes under the front crossmember and is easily hit when going over speed bumps. The Hookers are nice but over $600.00.
You can occasionally find older Mustang II specific headers on E Bay from Eagle or Blackjack as I did, but they do not make them for the Mustang II anymore. Forget any ads that list shorty's for the II, many have bought these and they DO NOT FIT...
Here is everything you need to know about Mustang II headers. This forum is the most active of all M II sites.

I agree with STANG II, I was running Blackjack on my 302 and everything fit . Will be running them again when I get the car back on the road.

Try the Hooker 6120, I have them on three of my IIs with c4. You can get them in black or ceramic coated.

I tried the hooker 6120 and they would not fit. Would not clear the firewall or the starter. Paid $500.00 for them and I would've had to pay another $300.00 or so to get them to fit. Could not send them back because they were too beat up. What mods if any did you have to do to get them to fit?

Cobra 77, what mods do you have to your engine? was it a transplant or was it original with the 302 ? What condition are your motor mounts in, if they are shot which most are, the engine will sit anywhere from 1-3 lower than designed making the headers not fit correctly? What other brands have you tried? Something is not right if the Hookers would not fit.

The 6120 hookers are designed specificaly for the Mustang II. If you are have a difficulty its because you iether have a non II c4(which have a bigger bell)or you are not installing them properly.
The procedure I would recommend is start on the passenger side first, because the engine is offset to that side by 2".This is the side that has less clearance. Remove the motor mount bolt that holds the motor mount to the frame mount together. Lift the engine a few inches. The hookers come as two pieces for the passenger side. Install the half flange with the number 3 and 4 pipes and collectors. Install the number 1 and 2 pipes with the half flange. Drop your engine and now you should be able to install the passenger side which has a lot more clearance.
