First you need to know if you have a large frame or small frame alternator. Most V8's had small frame. Measure the distance between mounting bolt holes. You can get a large frame 93 Taurus alternator or a early Fox bodied V8 alternator for a small frame. They can come in 130 amp and 150 amps. I included the wiring diagrams (very easy). The amps are stamped in the case somwhere. I got mine at a pick-a-part for $20. Had it tested at Kragens for free. Works great. If it has a serpentine belt pulley just loosen the nut, pull the pulley off and put your existing pulley from your alt. on and don't overtighten it.

You get what you pay for. Buy a cheap high amp alternater, and it won't last.

Alternaters are a lot like ignition systems; in that they only produce as much power as needed. 150A is the most power it will produce under the greatest load. If you're only drawing 50A, that's all it will produce.

It's always nice to have a little extra capacity. But the down side is that higher amperage require more windings, which significantly increases the weight and cost.
