You get what you pay for. Buy a cheap high amp alternater, and it won't last.
Alternaters are a lot like ignition systems; in that they only produce as much power as needed. 150A is the most power it will produce under the greatest load. If you're only drawing 50A, that's all it will produce.
It's always nice to have a little extra capacity. But the down side is that higher amperage require more windings, which significantly increases the weight and cost.
