I am no expert... But from the sound and the damage.... I would say a nitrous backfire.

[STANG II]

Close, he has been running 11.3's - 11.9's for some time on nitrous, on this particular night he appearently developed a leaking fuel selonoid and on his 1st run of the night BOOM. Emergency crew saved the car, engine is OK but hood and wires are toast, had this been in a street race he would have lost the entire car and maybe worse.

As a side note except for a few stoplight revs and chirps He does NOT street race. Like he says "you want to run? meet me at the track".
