Default black headliner problem

ok here it is... i just went to the local fabric shop and bought vynl black 4 feet by 4 feet for like 7.00$. the inside of my roof is totally stripped . its metal. i see the bar that runs in betewwn the roof. do i need some kind of foam padding or do i glue it the way it is.

I would with foam & maybe cardbord or pressed bord so u have a smooth surface.

just in case you go new
they sell them for the II's at JC Whitney for $90ish, your liner will need the small 1/4 moon shaped rods that run through the liner (like a curtain rod) they go to them little holes on both sides of the roof on the inside and the front rod (closest to the windshield) takes 2 springs to hold it tight , I think there 3-4 rods (they are color coded)

On my II I used regular cloth and sowed the cloth to the rods looks nice but takes a LONG PAINFUL time make sure yeah get it decently tight ttyl
