Well, I got my first Mustang when I was 17 years old, and it was a Mustang II. I kept it all the way till last June. I bought my 6th Mustang (and 2nd Mustang II) a little over a year-and-a-half ago. I've had a ton of cars since I started driving, but since I was 17 I've always had a Mustang II (even two of them for awhile).
That may be coming to an end this weekend. I'm seriously looking at a 1998 Mustang GT convertible that is already nicely modded (CAI, gears, interior pieces, performance clutch, full exhaust from headers to tailpipes, killer stereo system, wheels, lights, injectors) that I can get for a real nice price. The only thing about the '98 I don't like is that is has a lot of miles (over 220,000 on the odometer) but the car runs and drives tight.
If I get this car, it would be by using my Mustang II as the trade-in for the down payment (be paying it off the rest of the way via tax refund and parting out my old Chevy pickup (I love that old truck, but by the time I get around to having the time, room, and money to fix everything it needs it will have finished rusting away)). I'm a little torn by the decision, can't really make up my mind.
Wow... 7 years of owning a Mustang II...

RJS 11-gallon fuel cell, C4 tranny, chrome 16" pony wheels, fuzzy dice, brown vinyl half-top, and painted in the tackiest color ever (harvest gold, that's why I call it "The Goldenrod").
Also have a 2003 Dodge Ram (lightly modded daily driver/tow rig/office/dining room/home away from home/workshop... I call it "The Big Blue Dawg".)
Although these motors are pretty reliable, I would also have to vote for not getting it. I'd keep the II and look for a better alternative.
First, there's deals to be had out there for the fox-4 platform right now. Second, those mods aren't really going to net you much in the horsepower department either, to be honest. The gears and the mid pipe are probably the only thing that's really giving it any real SOTP feel over a stock 98. The aero sn95 are nothing impressive in the horsepower departments in any trim.
On top of it all, I never believed in the convertible as a daily driver. Too much of a hassle and more stuff to break. These are all things to take into consideration when buying something you have to deal with every day.
Also I hope those injectors are 19#/hr because there's absolutely no reason to upgrade the injectors until forced induction is added to the mix.

Tell me something I don't know... I had a 1987 Mustang GT convertible for a daily driver for two years, worst freakin idea ever. The mileage on this '98 didn't bother me because the car wasn't going to be a daily driver anyway (2003 Ram in my sig has that job, as well as being my office, dining room, tow rig, and workshop), just something to take to the road course and/or drag strip on Saturdays and do a little cruising in once in awhile when not beating on it at one track or the other.
But... long story short... I didn't do it. I finished re-assembling the II (which was in pieces in the driveway) and drove it for the first time in three months. I did take it to the dealership, but decided not to go through with it. The II is a whole different creature after the intake and carburetor swap, the ol' girl will spin the right rear tire for a half mile if I don't lift now, and it wouldn't even chirp a tire with the stock carb and intake.
So.... the era continues, I still have a II... got a whole bunch of parts to throw at her still, (including the headers and Flowmasters from my sig that are in the trunk right now) but oh well.
