Default 1976 Cobra II power steering was it option

I am looking at purchasing a 1976 Cobra II with the 302 engine but it doesn't have power steering. I thought that it was standard on this car and that someone must have taken it off. The guy I am buying it from claims that it never had P/S. Am I mistaken?

Drive it without the power steering you'll love the handeling, you can always add it. I just took mine out of my 77 V8 in favor of a nice chrome manual steering rack, engine will look a lot nicer without the 21 lbs of pump, brackets and extra rack weight.

Power steering was optional, and except for slow-speed maneuvering in parking lots, won't be missed on a Mustang II.

In fact, I hate the sloppiness of the power steering on my '76, especially after I drove my '74 with it's manual rack-and-pinion, I'm going manual in the future myself.

You don't need a power steering pump but I hope you have strong forearms.
