And DAMN does it sound MEAN!
Dynomax longtube headers, (with Percy's Seal-4-Good gaskets at the heads and collectors both!) and 2.5" pipe back to a pair of Flowmaster Super 44 mufflers, with dumps right at the rear axle.
Between the Edelbrock carburetor and intake, and the exhaust alone, this car went from "Barely able to make it out of the driveway" when stock; to "Barely able to get out of it's own way" with a junkyard 4-bbl. Holley, that intake, and the stock muffler cut off (left the resonator in place) to "Get the hell outta my way" now!
I pulled out of the shop and turned onto the main drag on my lunch break when I picked it up, and floored it... spun the tires all the way into 3rd gear (automatic shifted manually).
Stopped at a stop sign about 100ft from a highway on ramp, and floored it from there all the way onto the interstate. The car sounds fantastic, drives great, has a mean idle, note gets aggressive in the 1500-3500 range under throttle, and settles out at cruising speed with the RPM between 1500-2200.
Needless to say, I'm thrilled with how it turned out. I'm wishing I'd been able to do the exhaust myself, but where the headers exited when I installed them, and the location of the
tranny crossmember meant getting an exhaust shop involved for the bends required. Oh well, I'm happy with the end result!
