Default 1978 Mustang ?King? Cobra II

I am in need of help, is there any way to tell if a Cobra II is a king or not without any of the beautiful artwork or anything? If ya need any info from the VIN tag i can supply but i have the nagging feeling that it is easier than that...

Does the car still have the buck tag? If so, a King will have either "KING" or "KC" listed (depending on whether it was assembled in Dearborn or San Jose).

The buck tag is there, but i can't get a good look at it right now and i don't have a screwdriver small enough to loosen it to move it. Tomorrow i think i will have to go out with a mirror, but is there any other way, like options such as mirrors or the like? The main problem is that the paint is faded and no decals are visible.

The only other semi-reliable way to ID a King is to look for the brake cooling ducts that mount behind the King Cobra airdam, but if it doesn't have the airdam, the ducts may have been removed as well.

Unfortunately, the buck tag is the only SURE way to tell a King from any other 2+2 (other than a Mach 1 with its specific code in the VIN #, of course)

Kings have a distinct air dam and spats, also if its a King it will have steel ducts behind the air dam for the front brakes, also a 1" front sway bar, running horse on the door panels, and if original should have adjustible front shocks.

The first line on the buck tag will be mostly numbers (including the consecutive unit # from your VIN)

The second and third rows list options that the car was built with. If its a Cobra or a King, it'll have the codes for it. Grab as many of the codes as you can read, as they can tell a lot about the car.

I will have to go out this weekend with the mirror again so that I can have some light when I go to write them down then.

Sometimes, its easiest to unscrew the grille so you can get a screwdriver in and pull the bucktag (if its on the top part of the rad support (Dearborn cars). Its a bit trickier to get to the bucktag when they attached them on the bottom in San Jose.
