Default mustang suspension

I have a 55 ford f100 that I want to install a mustang suspension in. What I wanted to know is whats the difference between a 74-80 mustang 2 and a 79 mercury xr7.

Thanks
dennis

74 to 78 mustang IIs had independent suspension and all other mustangs have shock towers tied to the engine bay inner fenders. The IIs are the only ones that dont have their shocks tied to the inner fenders, thats why its called independent suspension.

The 74-78 mustang II and the pinto are simalar in design. Although the pinto parts are lighter duty. They do not use a shocktower like most other unit body fords. The 79 up was called the fox chassis and ford returned to a shock tower design. Not using the towers makes the II design easy to adapt to full frame cars and trucks.

bussman40, if you're wanting to put a II suspension into a 55 f100, check the aftermarket (Heidts, fatman, Helix, etc...), the crossmembers are made from tubing not sheetmetal so they're stronger and more after market parts will bolt up.
