I have a 1978 Ford T-5. It looks identical to any other Mustang II, but it doesnt say Mustang II anywhere on it. Where it typically would say it it has emblems that say T-5. I have owned this car since my high school days back in the mid 80s. I never really gave it much thought as to wether or not it is a rare car or not. Im trying to find out exactly what the story is on it. The only thing i have been able to find out is that the car was originally sold in Europe somewhere. Supposedly there was a bicycle or motorcycle company there called Mustang so they were not able to call them Mustangs over there so they called them T-5s. Anyone know if there is any truth in this or have any better info for me?

The name "Mustang" in Germany was already trademarked for a motorcycle, so the Mustangs in Germany were known as T-5's. I would guess any future Mustang's sold there would have been called T-5's as well, but I didn't think the term T-5 lived past 1966.

You got it man. The T-5 is a German Mustang sold to the US officers who wanted a Mustang that bad.

The term T-5 was used on 64-78 Mustangs sold in several European nations due to other companies having patents on the name "Mustang" (including a German motorcycle and a lawnmower elsewhere).

My dad was in the special forces stationed in Germany in 1966 and bought a T-5. He said it would probably be a pretty collectible car right now if he hadnt torn down every fence row in Germany with it

I now own a 1965 T5 Coupe along with a 1965 Mustang Coupe. You can't tell either of them apart with exception of the emblems on the front quarter panels, steering wheel, and gas cap. They are a rare species. They do make a good conversation piece!
