Default Pricing a 1978 Mustang II

Hi,
I just joined the forum and am hoping for some help. I am trying to help my elderly mother sell her 1978 Mustang II. She has no idea what it is worth, and neither do I. As she hasn't driven it much, the car has 56,000 original miles. It is running and apart from a few dings and perhaps the need for new tires, it's in good shape.

Whatever guidance anyone could offer me would be greatly appreciated. Incidentally, the car is in California so that it also meets the stringent emission standards.

Shelly

Shelly could provide more details. Is the car standard or automatic and what size engine does it have? If you have picture(s) it would help alot if you could post them. We have some great Mustang II guys on our forums who are always more than happy to help You might even get a good offer.

Hi Shelly and welcome. Like Scott said a few more details would be helpful. But if I were to guess I would say between 1,500 and 3,000 if it is very good shape mechanically and body wise.

With that few miles and in that good of condition It should be worth at least $3000, (assuming base model, with 4-cyl. and 4-spd. w/o A/C) And maybe as high as $7500-$10,000 (King Cobra, Cobra II, Mach I, with a 302, automatic, A/C, T-tops, and all options). I'd get it professionally appraised so you know what you're getting into.

I just recently picked up an Old Car Price Guide published by Krause, I found out that my II was worth about $800 more than I paid for it (condition 5) the II you mentioned is at least a condition 4 if not a condition 3 so it should be worth more.

I agree with 74stang2togo. With what you discribed I would price the car at $4500 and see what kind of offers you get. If not much work is needed then someone could easily convert her into a show winner.

If only it was a King Cobra or a Cobra II, you could get alot more out of it.
