Question Has anyone tried to install 17" wheels on your Mustang II?

Has anyone tried to install a 17X8" wheel on your Mustang II? If so, what tires did you run?

Default 17x8 wheels

I haven't got the back tires on yet. Fronts are 205/40R17's and the rears are 225/45R17's. I should have the backs on next week and back on the ground. I'll take some more pic's then. I would rather have used wheels like your's and spacers (the kind that bolt on) to be able to play with the offset by using thicker or thinner spacers.

They look great Stretchmobile. I'll stick one of mine in the wheel well and post a pic if I can. Now, all we have to do is lower these things. I think that may require a rear coil spring conversion.

Default I lowered mine already!

I put 2" drop spindles on the front and trimmed 1/2 wrap on the springs to start with. I made 1 1/2" blocks for the back. See attached pic's. Took 45 minutes and didn't cost anything. Went to local spring shop had longer U bolts bent. Those cost $20.00. Piece of cake.

Default Tires finally

I got my rear tires finally. Was delayed by having to buy a new washer and dryer. Here are some pic's. I am going to get different front wheels. 24mm offset. I need that inch.

Hey Stretch, What did you use to convert to a 5 lug. My cobra is still the 4 lug and I want to convert it, but I don't want to have to put GM parts on the car and I really don't want to have to have the pads cut down. If you used a donor car for parts, what year and model. I can live with rear drums for now, so I also need to know how you did the rears. Thanks in advance for any information and help you can offer.

I used granada 11" rotors in the front with big brake kit using GM calipers and adapters I bought on Ebay. I had a machinist friend redrill the rear axles and drums.

Pic of mine with 17's. Don't mind the crazy nasty paint job Fronts are 245's rears are 275's. Can't remember the aspect ratio right now. Had to cut the rear fender lip and "massage" the inner wheel well just a little and use 1.25" bolt-on spacers. The front is the same granada rotor GM caliper set-up as above. Wheels are later model Mustang GT wheels. Car isn't done and has limited driving on it, but they haven't rubbed yet.

17" rims look great! I think they really set off the Mustang II body style.

i am looking to put 17 inch tires on my II also but I don't really want to change from the 4 lug. Is it possible to find the 4 lug rims I like with 108 mm measurement and still put them on. I'm not familiar with the spacers. Do I have to put the extra calipers and adapters on? If you guys could help it would be appreciated so I could get my Cobra II closer to finished.

Sounds like you need to talk to the wheel store. You need to see if there is a 4 lug wheel you like and then ask if it comes in a 4.25 circle. The rears need to be close to 0 offset. The fronts might need to be inset more to clear the fender. I think I had 35mm positive offset in the front, but the granada disc's add 1/2" width to each side. A good wheel shop can try different offsets on your car to see which will clear the fender lip.

Stunner67, you asked about the 5 lug conversion. I used a set of spindles from my 74 Grand Torino Elite with the calipers. Mounted right up. Even used the 15 inche wheel that was on the Torino. That maybe a way to go.
