Default How to identify the transmission model

Hey everyone,

I was wondering how can I identify the transmission I have in my car? Its a 77 mustang cobra II. The car doesn't have an engine but it does have a tranny. I'm wanting to put in a 351W and was told that the C-4 was the best tranny to use for high hp applications.

Thanks!!!

If it's the factory unit it's either a C3 or a C4.

The C3 has a 13 bolt transmission pan, the C4 has an 11 bolt transmission pan. (According to AdvanceAutoParts.com)

what about a 91 5.0L lx... it says automatic over drive on the pan, but the shifter detents do not seem to match the transmission, in other words I cant seem to be able to engage od and 1st manually. ( transmission was swapped before I bought it.) thanks
