Default "NEW" 1978 Mustang 2+2

Hi Everyone, I just bought a 1978 2+2 from a dealer in Florida. Been looking a long time for a car in this condition. It has 11,300 miles on it. A V6 with auto transmission. It needs very minimal work. Any comments would be appreciated.

beautiful... just beautiful. I'd keep one like that stock except for maybe wheels and tires and just enjoy it.

Thanks for all the positive feedback on the car. I had bought a 78 brand new. It was white with the rallaye package on it. The 302 with a 4 speed. I had it for 2 years then traded it in and regretted it ever since. I have been seriously looking for a 78 for about 5 years. When I spotted this one on the internet i knew i had to have it. I have posted a picture of my original...the picture is not that great but it was a nice car. This car is all original...the only thing i really need to replace is the t-top weatherstripping. I know I overpaid for it ($9,000)...but i figured what the heck...i don't think i would be able to find another thats in such good shape..any advice on keeping this car up would be very interesting.....Thanks..

Very nice! Looks new. I didn't realize that the t top trim was normally chrome. Mine's black but so is the rest of the trim on the car.

Check to make sure that its not a Mach I. It sure likes like one just from the molding and targa. Not many of them.

$9,000.00 and you think you overpaid....NOPE!!!! I have over 7K in mine and I am not even close to completion...Geez I had no clue how much time and money this resto would cost....Your 9K is a steal....You are very lucky! If I had to do it over again I would have bought like you did...That is a very nice car...Enjoy it...In the meantime I need to back to stripping 30 years of paint. Maybe I will be done in time for the Woodward Dream Cruise in August...

So you think I did ok with the price...well I never bought a car without doing all the correct things like taking it out for a drive...asking allot of questions...looking under the hood...checking for leaks...so buying over the internet just by looking at allot of pictures was quite the gamble but the car is great. I belong to the AACA and the cruise nights are allot of fun and the car gets quite a bit of attention. Good luck with your project and post some pics when your done....

you bought at the right time, they've gone up quite a bit recently. I've seen 'em go for around 20K in that condition at auction.

just baby it at first, the seals etc inside the engine will need to be conditioned. Then you shoud drive it for at least 10-20 miles every month or so. Enough for the engine to get good and warm. You may want to convert to an electronic ignition.

-Oh replace ALL your weatherstripping and seals.

Old cars don't like to sit around. you can't let the seals go bad, or you're going to start running to all kinds of gremlins. -& not from AMC.

One last thing, get a clay bar from meguires or mothers and get all teh contamination from the paint, then do the 4 step process -paint cleaner/conditioner, polish, cleaner wax & finish with a high quality wax to recondition the paint.
