Default Header questions

Does anyone know which are better...Short tube or long tube headers? I have a set of each and need to sell one set but I am not sure which to sell now? My brother said the long tube headers are better for performance...He said it has to do with the exhaust gas pulses? Is this true? Help...Please?

Long tubes make more power but wont pass emissions.

I am not really worried about emissions...If I run larger compression pistons (9.5-1) with a cam, 4BBL and an Offenhauser intake, Will there be a significant difference in power between the long tube and short tube? Is the power loss/gain low end, midrange or upper revs? also which are easier to install?

The shorties are easier to install. With the mods you have planned, long tubes would make a little more power. The difference in power between the two depends on the engine combo and in your case, I'd guess the long tubes could make 10-15 hp more. The place you'd gain would be the entire rev range but the the sweet spot would be from 4000 rpm and up. Your brother is right about the exhaust pulses being what makes the power in long tubes because one pulse will help pull the exhaust gas out of the next cylinder. Most header tubes are made with the firing order in mind and arranged so that they go in a pattern within the collector. Heated gas swirls so this takes advantage of it to make the exhaust more efficient.
