Default 1978 Mustang - Engine swap (302), help picking transmission.

Hi everyone. I'm looking to swap out the engine in my '78 Stang and I think I found a solid 302 (5.0L) that I will use. My question now is what trans should I go with? Can I work FR Tremec 5spd into the car? Help! Thanks to all who reply.

To clarify, I currently have a stock, 1978 Mustang II 4-cylinder. Thanks again.

You can use the 5.0 engine, but the Tremec will take some work to get it in. It requires mods to go in a Fox body, so some for it to go in a II will take work as well. Probably need to modify the shifter hole, maybe some clearancing of the tranny tunnel (it's a huge tranny), a new custom driveshaft, and probably a few other items as well. Don't let this deter you from this if you really want to use it. Just takes some doing.

I've just heard/read some good things about it and I looked into it. By all means suggest something better, I'd rather find a 5spd trans that takes little modding to fit into the Stang. So anyone, fire away some better options, I'm not set on anything.

Thanks.
