Default Manifold and Carb for a 1977 Mustang Cobra II 302 (no emissions!)

Hey Y'all -

Just lining up my winter project. Thinking about adding a Manifold and carb to the ol' 77 Cobra II (302).

I had my eye on the Edelbrock Performer and a Holly 600 cfm carb.

Any suggestions? I'm looking for reliability and fuel economy as well as a little OOMPH on the streets.

Thanks in advance.

Great manifold and carb selection if you have a stock or lightly modded motor. The Holley is a great carb and offers alot for tunability but I tend to like the Edelbrock because of mechanical secondaries. The Holley's vacuum secondaries tend to bog a little when shifting but can be tuned to minimize this a little bit. Vacuum secondaries are MUCH more fual friendly though.

Edelbrock or Holley 600cfm carbs are both great choices for stock or lightly modded 302s, as are Edelbrock Performer or Weiand Action Plus intakes and either will clear a Mustang II hood.

If you want a little bit more "oompf" (and have the supporting cast of parts to support it) a Weiand Stealth intake will also fit.

Also have a 2003 Dodge Ram (lightly modded daily driver/tow rig/office/dining room/home away from home/workshop... I call it "The Big Blue Dawg".)

I have a performer Rpm intake on my car with a 750 holly double pumper an it work ok.. But im thinkin about getin a Air-Gap intake they work so much better... Spend $50 more an get the air-gap.. u could prob. get by with a holly 650... Holly or Demon are both good carbs. they have adjustments that edelbrock doesnt have..

Careful with hood clearance if you are running a stock hood. I am running a 700 with a RPM and I have a 14" drop base and have to use a bolt head to hold the air cleaner down since a wing nut wouldn't clear the stock hood! I wouldn't reccomend a 700, to much carb normally aspirated... I run a 100 shot so I needed fuel up top. The others reccomendations of 600 to 650 is plenty for a stocker with stock cam... The only thing a 700 or better will get you is to much fuel and poor fuel economy.

Wieand Stealth is a great low profile intake that has tested well and is pretty cheap and single plane.
