Ford didn't build them, factory King Cobras were sent to a customizing shop (probably Cars and Concepts much like the fox-body cars from 1983-1993) and the roofs were cut off and tops installed. Several dealerships had programs set up with C&C or other customizers for their customers. If the info I found when I looked this up awhile back was right, a particular dealership in Florida ordered most or all of those KC convertibles.
