Default 1977 Mustang II... Need help picking the right camshaft

I have run into a jam. I have a 77 mustang II cobra and i am rebuilding the motor. the block is out of an 89 truck and the heads are gt40p heads. i have a 4 barrel intake for it and a holley 650 double pumper carb. but there are alot of cam choises here. it will be a hydraulic roller setup so i just am looking for some ideas for camshafts. if you have a reply just tell me why this cam would be a good fit and if i would need to do any improvements to make it work. i am very open to ideas so just let me know. thanx

With the carb and heads you've got there are two really good choices available from Ford Racing. Both the E303 and B303 cams from Ford racing would work well for a street or street/strip application with those heads and carb size, but more details would help, such as what exhaust, transmission, intake manifold, and other little details like what the car's going to be used for and whether or not a power adder (nitrous, supercharger, turbo) is in your future.

the car will have a street/strip setup. i have a pair of BBK shorty headers to go on it. it will be backed by a 4 speed transmission with 3.55 gears in the 8" rear end. as of right now i do not plan on having any power adder.

the bbk headers will not work !the mustang IIs are way differnt than the fox bodies i building a 76 cobra [347 with a tremec and3 ,90 with a spool] i would go with a trick flow stage 2 cam or a anderson n 51 hr . i think the motorsports cams are ok but theres way better cams out there

Just curious, I have seen several Mustang II owners purchase the BBK shorty headers for their cars. They don't fit. Is there someone out there giving false advice as to fit? Are they listed someplace as a replacement for the Mustang II. I have seen them listed on E Bay for 74-78 V8 Mustangs and have contacted the sellers. Yes they will fit on the motor out of the car but not when installed due to frame clearence.

Default Headers

All I've heard is that headman makes a set that fits with out even removing the motor mounts. On the passenger side, the front exhaust HAS to wrap in an odd way. It will go straight to the floor and make a 90 degree turn for the back about15-18inches down toward the collector. I've found them ebayed for about $190 used. Good luck!

May I suggest you talk to Jay Allen @ camshaftinnovations.com. He can set you up with a cam that will do want you want it to do. Some might say he is pricey but the quality and service is awsome. I have one of his custom cams and am very satisfied with it. You will have to fill out a build sheet though. It is a ton better than the letter cams that ford makes.
