I was looking at specs and it says it needs a Holley 5200 series or Webers. I assume the 5200 series is discontinued as I looked it up and it's not showing up. I want to know what my options are? Any better combo's? I plan on using this for street driving and just want more pep without replacing any major componants or the engine. Help? |
The Holley 5200 series was known by several names in the 70s...
Sold or installed under the following brands:
Holley, Weber, and Motorcraft.
Yup, that's right, Motorcraft... It gets better:
The Motorcraft carburetor installed from the factory on 1974-1978 Mustang IIs with 2.3s was....
The Motorcraft 5200... aka the Holley 5200... aka the Weber 5200!
I've got six of these carburetors in various states of dissasemble on a shelf in my garage (bought cheap on Ebay for parts since these things aren't made anymore) and one on the 2.3L engine in my '74... The on on my 2.3 says "Holley" on the top, two of the six on the shelf simply say "Weber" on the side, and the other four have Motorcraft and/or Ford stamped on them with Weber stamped on the bottom of the fuel bowl on the inside.
So as long as your car still has it's original 2-bbl. carburetor... you're good to go!
If yours got replaced by a 1bbl. and a 1bbl. intake???
Don't sweat it, just start hitting the junkyards, the 5200s were installed on millions of Fords, Toyotas, and Volkswagens as factory carbs, and on even more four-cylinders as aftermarket add-ons, because they were simply great little carburetors, then hit the parts store with it so you can order a rebuild kit for it (just know what it came off of).
