I am new to restoring cars and cherrying them up, this is my first car project.

So I have a 78 Mustang II coupe, I am wondering what kind of engine to put in it. What I am looking for in the engine is a reliable engine that will last a while because I don't plan on hiding this car away, I was thinking a turbo v6 for it, but then the guy I bought it from said he did not know of any turbo v6s that ford made that would fit into my car. This car has a good engine in it at the moment, a v4 that runs very nicely and is about 20k miles old, I was planning on either straight up selling it as a whole or selling it for parts.

So...

Is there a v6 engine that I could put in it or a v6 turbo engine I could put in it?

Assuming you're upgrading for the power you have a couple of options.

The 2.3L 4 cyl you have can actually be pretty peppy if you were to do some upgrades such as carb, exhaust etc. With the low mileage you mentioned, you may want to go this route. Engine swaps are expensive and time consuming and most Mustang IIs aren't particularly fast even with a bigger engine.

You also have the options within the engines that came with the Mustang IIs. A 2.8L V6 and a 302 V8. Of course the V8 has the most power and is the more sought after engine.

If you really want to go turbo I think there's a write up somewhere on swapping over from a Turbo Cougar or Thunderbird. Try the search feature and see what turns up. Good luck with the car.

Just cause I feel like correcting this, the engine is in a Inline configuration, thus making it a I-4.
