Default ATF Swap in 2.8

I have a 77 Coupe with the 2.8 and auto tranny. How many quarts of transmission fluid does it take? Anything special about the swap? This will be the first time I've done it.

It's a c4 trans and should take about 7 quarts, maybe 8 if it was a 302/5.0. That's assuming that you drain the torque converter out too. In order to do that you need to take the small front lower cover off in front of the trans to get at the drain plub on the converter. You'll probably have to turn the engine over with the starter until you can see it. There is no oil plug on the trans pan itself so it's a messy job. Make sure you have a large catch pan under the trans. You have to take out all the pan bolts on one corner or half of the trans pan and loosen the rest in order to get the pan to tip one corner down from the trans so that all the trans fluid dumps out that corner. Make sure you buy a new filter kit which consists of a new filter plate and gasket. You'll need the rarer Type F trans fluid for your trans too, not the Mercon or any other type.
