Question 77 cobra2 428 transmission selection?

Have a 77 project ive been working on, getting the body back into shape but not sure if i would want to switch it from auto to manual or not. i ordered some new pedals to switch it to manual but was wondering if theres a powerful enough tranny/torgue converter combo that would be just as powerful. open to any and all suggestions..

It's hard to beat the big input spline C-6 for taking power unless you want to spend big bucks for an after market unit. What all are you planning on running? Sounds like fun.

am i reading your title right? are you planning to put an FE in your II?!? or a stroked windsor?

i like to row my own, but automatics are more consistant on the track. i hear you can build an AOD to be just as strong as a C6, and i know an aod will fit....and isn't an AOD's first gear deeper than a C6?

Ive seen a 429 big block in a stang II Hatch back in 1991 in pueblo colorado at the drag strip, was a tight fit but looked awesome. didnt cut much either, but no hood.

my sisters boyfriend had one in high school. it may have been a 76.

but not many manuals will take that kind of power. and the amount of surgery to fit a T56 might make it less than desireable...

There were many 4spd Mustang II's, but the trans will not take the torque that a 428 will put out, i think your better off with a C-6 auto trans, manual valve body. If u have to have a stick, then a tremec or a world class T-5 might hold up.

sorry, i was being an ass. the mustang II front end is most likely the most popular suspension in the street rod world.

definately search flaming river, fatman,

for your project, remember one thing. stock your brakes are 90 horsepower stock, you need 500 horsepower brakes for your 500 horsepower engine. does that make sense?

there is no such thing as overkill on your brakes. well full blown ceramic brakes that do not work until they are 900 degrees are overkill. but you get the idea. go fast is good. stop fast and straight is safe....

am i making sense or am i rambling?

Original tranny 4spd will not hold up,its more of a British trans.I would trust a c-6 auto. or a good toploader from the 60s! like the other said bigger brakes!
