I read somewhere that Maverick 5 lug axles are a direct swap into the Mustang II rear end . Anyone have any experience or information about this swap? Any help or info, including what year axles if possible, would be greatly appreciated.

From what i know,,,, not certain maverick axles were longer then the II but not for sure. going for the 5 lug conversion? They may or may not fit.i know a whole 67-68 mustang 8inch rear will fit but it widens your rear by about 2 +\- 1/4 inches.

Just shorten the axle then. XD

The Maverick axle swap will require use of the Mustang II axle bearings and retainers. The II 8" rear end has a unique bearing retainer, not the same as a typical small-bearing 8"/9" Ford. I am not sure if the Maverick Axles will require shortening or not.
stang74shelby referenced the use of a 67-68 Mustang rear. I used one from a '66 on my '78, which is 3/4" wider (3/8" per side) than the original II rear end, and narrower than the 67-68.
