Question Holley 5200 Air Filter Suggestions, 1978 Mustang

My 78 Mustang 2.3 build is underway I have already purchased my 8 Inch rear end. I have about 1500-2000 dollars of more work before i'll be satisfied. Looking to produce 150+ horsepower. I'm just having trouble finding something to replace that gawky intake assembly. Does anyone have a link to something that could provide me with a square air filter with a case around it or even better a adapter that slides over my two studs to allow a one stud filter to be used. Help would be very appreciated.

Go to VW performance shops. They use this carb for bugs and have some nice air cleaners for them. Moore Racing and Bugpack are a couple of sites.

Agreed. If you are staying with your stock Motorcraft 5200 2 barrel carb, the 1977 and earlier versions (identified by lack of a bowl vent) will accept the chrome air cleaner pictured above. It is actually made for the Weber DFEV, but since the 5200 is based off of it, it fits. 1978-1982 Motorcraft 5200 carburetors have a different mounting area for the air cleaner (more triangular than oval) and will not allow the above pictured air cleaner to fit properly. As much cash and money as you are going to put into your car, I would just go and buy a Weber DFEV. You'll see even better performance, the chrome air cleaner will fit, and parts will be easy to come by (like jets and rebuild kits and such).

Another good-looking option is to get the brushed-aluminum air cleaner lid from a 78+ carbureted 2.3L engine (they put them in anything and everything in the late 70s and early 80s) from a junkyard and polish the daylights out of it, then clear-coat it. In some states it's your only better-than-stock option to pass a visual emissions test. It's what I used on my '74 to pass... then out came my 2100carburetor, modified cable bracket, and 10" Edelbrock air cleaner 10 minutes after I got home!

Also have a 2003 Dodge Ram (lightly modded daily driver/tow rig/office/dining room/home away from home/workshop... I call it "The Big Blue Dawg".)
