Default 76 Cobra body Swap

I own a 76 cobra II with a pretty much unsalvageable body so I was wondering how difficult would it be to put on a body in nicer condition and would it be possible to put on t-tops in the process?

Thanks for the help

Robby D.

Robby since the Cobra and alot of other uni-body cars out there have no seperate frame persay, it would make alot more sense to strip off as much as you can off of the rusted body and transfer it over to one in much better shape.
Once uni-body cars have extensive rust espcially with limited aftermarket accesibiltiy of parts, they are pretty much good for the scrap heap.
The T-tops is not a simple task. Cutting a roof panel to swap over the glass and weatherstrips to all line up and seals properly is a great undertaking!!

I agree with using a rust-free body whenever possible. Save the rust repair money for a really nice paint-job and hipo parts!

I wouldn't exactly give up on the T-Tops though...I believe that they were engineered as a kit, so if you can get the kit out of one car in good condition, you have a good chance of putting them back into another car.

It will be a butt-load of work though...plan on taking lots of notes, pics, and measurements. Getting the kit parts reinstalled in the right order and in the right positions will mean the difference between leaks and no leaks.

You might want to look around for a local shop that has done T-Top kits in the past. Somebody that does aftermarket sunroofs, etc.

We could use a good picture reference for the parts and assembly of the MII T-Tops. Hint, hint.

Default t-top swap

I got a quote for swapping a t-top hood along with all the body work and paint. Between $5000 and $6000. This is a total ground up clean, swap t-top, line up everythng and spray 2 metallic colors. I plan on helping with the tip swap and they are willing to cut the price. I have done the t-top swap on a camaro a few years back. It's nopt as hard as everyone says. Just remember the old saying " measure twice and cut once. I would do all the work myself, but before I moved to Arizona, I had to sell all of my tools.
