Default 1977 Mustang II-Ticking Noise under valve covers

I have a ticking noise coming from under the valve covers i believe and i think that it might be a loose rocker arm? I'm not sure though. I had one rocker arm so loose before that it slipped right off the spring, but this sounds a little different? Any ideas thanks everyone.

Could be a rocker or a lifter. You need to pull the valve cover and check.

I have pulled the cover off and they all seem to be in spec none of them were so loose that they went onto the top of the spring. I also noticed that when i was driving it i just suddenly lost rmp's for a split second then it recovered

ok so i checked again and this time i cranked the engine for 2 seconds and a rocker arm was loose. so loose another 10 minutes of running and i bet it would have fallen off. Does anyone have any ideas why they would come loose this is the second one in less than a month. I bought the car about a month ago and the guy put a 289 HO in it.

Either they weren't torqued to spec when they were installed, or you've got excessive valvetrain wear.

Make sure all of the rocker arms are adjusted properly, and if they are, you need to pull your lifters and check them and the cam. If the engine was recently build, the cam may have been broken in with the wrong oil (you pretty much NEED Rotella 30 weight or another 30 weight with a break-in additive now days with the lack of zinc in most motor oils if you want to prevent premature cam/lifter failure.)
