Default restoration under coating

im in the middle of a restoration and i stripped and sand blasted the entire car as well as all the suspension parts it is getting to be that time where i can start to put it back together finally! i have replace the toe board sections of the floor board on both sides of the and have the welds ground down smooth i want to put some kind of weather proof coating on it to prevent future rust. i also want to coat the entire under side of the car with somthing but i dont think that whatever coating i put on the rest of the car needs to be as tough as what i put on the welds.

any ideas and keep in mind im on a budget but i may have to break budget for the good stuff if i have to. thanks brandon

It's expensive, but an option.

Use spray on or roll on bed liner. I did mine for about $45 from walmart.

Whatever protective coating you decide to use, make sure you use a good etching primer first to get good adhesion on the bare metal.

I used the truck bed liner on the inside tub as well as the underside of the car. This was after soaking the car in a marine based primer called Interzinc 52. It was about $170/ gallon. I used 4 kits of the truck bed liner after putting on the seam sealer. 2 on the inside and two on the under side. I stayed away from the suspension as much as possible. My car was designed to be a driver, not a show car. After I finished that, I used undercoating and a long tube nozzle and soaked inside all of the frame rails with undercoating (just the inside) There are more details at http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2219901
If I was building a show car, I would paint the underside of the car and keep it clean.
Good luck!
