Default bogs when you accelerate

I have a 1975 2+2 with 82K miles that slept for 24 years in the garage and just like snow white, we're having a bit of difficulty waking her up.

We drained, flushed, and replaced all fluids, battery, spark plugs, plug wires, even the fuel pump. Started her up and she purred. We took her for a drive and noticed that she bogs down at 40 mph.

What could be the problem???

A little bit more info which I should have said to begin with....sorry.

The car has a 2.3 with manual trans all emission intact. I was also thinking in the line of the emission stuff that may cause this problem. what do you guys think?

Could you explain more by what you mean when you say it 'bogs'
The word 'bog' makes me think something along the lines of spitting and sputtering ad thinking fuel problems ie carb but would have a better idea if you could elaborate

By the way, we also rebuilt the carburetor as well with still the same outcome. She'll get to about 30mph and when you try to accelerate, she'll bog down and die. Once, I shifted to neutral and gassed it then shifted back to gear to prevent her from dying.

Without any load, you can rev her up without any hesitation at all; idles well too.

There is a list of things you need to narrow down.
1. Incorrect ignition timing
2. Faulty distributor
3. Restricted vacuum. Plugged, cracked, or missing
4. Restricted jets or the wrong size
5. Wrong spark plug gap
6. Restricted exhaust manifold, exhaust pipe, muffler, tailpipe.

Okay guys here's an update.

We replaced the carb, took the egr off (very clogged), blocked all emission vacuum, and cut off the catalytic converter.

STILL THE SAME.....http://www.stangnet.com/mustang-foru.../smilies23.gif

This is truly getting to be sooooo frustrating!!!!

http://www.stangnet.com/mustang-foru...lies/dunno.gif what else is there that's causing it to bog down????

Sounds like a pluged/gummed up sock in the fuel tank.

Do they come with a sock? We took the tank down and I didn't notice it.

Did you clean out the tip on the bottom of the carb plate where the PVC hose goes?

Did you pull the sender out of the tank, it should be on the end of it.

From what you have said it sounds like a lack of fuel volume under load, I'm guessing you changed all fuel filters.

Just thought when it bogs out is there any kind of smoke out the tail pipe?

I had this same problem with mine and i didn't see anybody list it so i will check the vaccum advance/retard on the distributor. mine was bad and it did the same thing as what you discribed, but it took me a few days of problem solving to find it

What was the cause of it? What did you do? I'm facing a brick wall here. Please do share your experience. Thanks!!
