Hi, I'm new to the site and I just purchased a 76 mustang II that I'm in the process of restoring. I want to put at least a 15" rim on the car but would prefer 16" with low profile tires. The car has 13" pacer wheels on it now and I'm not sure what my maximum wheel size would be.
My wife had a 74 Mustang II Gia 4 cyl. with 13" wheels. I think, but will be corrected if I am wrong, that the V8 versions of that body had 14" wheels.
It more depends on the wheel/tire overall diameter matching with your transmission. You will probably have to do some research to find which sizes you can use.
Pacer wheels? Holey cow, I'd rather see the thing up on blocks.

If it looks right, it is right, and I decide if it looks right. Paraphrasing Sir Sydney Camm (of Hawker aircraft IIRC)
All factory Mustang II wheels were 13" in diameter; but larger wheels can be made to fit.
I'm currently running 16x7 chrome "pony" wheels on mine with 205/55/16s in the front and 255/50/16s in the rear. The rear tires rub if I hit a large enough bump, but other than that the fit is perfect.
Fox-body 15" wheels will bolt up (turbines or 10-holes), but the inside of the wheels will rub the control arms on the front (badly!) if you don't use spacers. I'm not sure what size tire will fit with the wheels though.

A 15 X 7'' wheel is a good size for the mustang II, inless you are puting some huge after market brakes on it, there is no reason to try to run bigger wheels, the wheel wells are not big enough to run much taller than a 26" tall tire.
I also own a 1988 turbocoupe...and i tried to put the 16 inch wheels from it onto my II...they were WAAAAAYYYYY to big...i couldnt even turn the steering wheel more than a quarter turn before they were rubbing something....im going to look for some 14's to fit mine!

The problem there is not the diameter of the rims, but the offset. The Foxbody rims are almost a front wheel drive offset. This causes the rim to get gouged by the upper A-arms and/or the balljoints.
Tony (T-top coupe II) has 16" Crown Vic mags on his Monroe Handler, and his wife's King Cobra runs either 17" or 18" (can't recall offhand) Coddington rims with ZERO rubbing, even with the plastic inner fender liners still in place...

lotsa parts and nowhere to work with them...
I fit 15x10's with 295/50R15's on the rear, but had to flare the fenders a bit, and I still get minor rubbing on bumps.
Stock suspension with original coils and leafs...
Anything wider will require serious reworking, as I can barely slide a cigarette between the tire and the following parts: leaf spring, side spat (I have a King Cobra), or fender lip...

this is my mach I... fronts are running 215/60/14 (no rubbing) and the rears are 235/60/14 (only rub when i had 8 cases of water in the back end) dont know TOO much about the rims.. Ultra Centerline knockoffs... 14x7? 14x8? This weekend i'm either gonna buy some 15's or 16'" ponys.. too hard to find cheap 14" tires lol

PS and yes, that 'sticker' on the door say "honk if parts fall off! "

Reason: added PS
I have BFGoodrich Radial T/A all around. 215/60R14 in the front, and 245/60R14 in the rear, on American Racing Outlaw II wheels. No rubbing anywhere . Plus it fills the wheelwell.
What size offset do our cars have? I'm trying to get a set of 15's for my 76 and it's a pain in the ass to find anything that doesn't require adapters. No one has ever answered my straight I want to know what dimensions of wheels are going to fit in the wheel well and not rub on the suspension. What back spacing is minimum and maximum?
