If you have them both, just park them side-by-side and just send the parts from one to the other. It all fits.

Torque,

I actually did this swap, and the only thing i had to do different was change the wireing harness...its a fairly simple job...you will also have to relocate the coil as if i remember right they were in two different places.

other than that it was a fairly simple swap...i even used the Ac parts from one to another...they just bolted right in to the core, and condenser that was allready there.

Thank you both for the replies.

I was wondering about the wiring harness as the 4Cyl Alternator is on drivers side whereas the V6 is on the passengers side.

@filletmignon: will the v6 wiring harness plug into the firewall in place of the I4 without any problems like mixed up wires?

Once again thanks. And if by any chance anyone is also a member of the MustangII Network forums please help me get registered. It seems that nobody is watching accounts to activate them or I keep getting denied for some odd reason.

Thanks again filletmignon.
Will hopefully have both engines pulled this weekend and maybe V6 set in place.

Couple other quick questions possible someone could help shed some light on for me.

The donor car ('74 V6 Ghia) has power brakes and power steering.
The recipient has no power brakes and I dont think it has power steering either. What all is involved in putting power brakes and steering into the recipient from the donor car?

Swap the engine harness (as posted above)

To swap in the power steering, you'll need to swap the rack along with the pump and plumbing. From the rag joint up, the column is the same, and the rack is a straight bolt-in (even easier with the engine out)

Swapping the power brakes, you'll need the pedal assemblies (oh, and BTW, the 74 clutch pedal and cable are different, so keep track when swapping the parts, just in case one or the other is a "late 74" with the 75 setup), the booster and master cylinder, and while I think they are the same, I'd swap the proportioning valve (the blocky-looking part on the dr. side fender that the lines from the master cylinder run to) as well just to make sure.

Thanks for the info Blue_Coyote.

All my noob questions and yesterday I find out my cousin has a 302 and tranny sitting he said he would give me so now Im debating which engine will go in after its all said and done.

I know the 302 will be much more of a pain in the arse, but oh the possibilities....

If you want to drop a 302 into a 74, its that danged rad support that'll be the biggest hurdle (well, next to finding the V8 engine mounts, oilpan and pickup tube, and bellhousing, of course).

As a first step, forget about trying to run a belt-driven fan for the rad. Go with a thin electric pusher fan right from the start and it'll save a lot of headaches...

I keep hearing that the V8 mounts are difficult to come by and on the expensive side, so I know I couldnt get lucky and these be the one Im looking for could they?

Are these the mounts I would need?

What oilpan/pickup tube do I need? The originaly from a general 5.0 wont work?

If Ive already got a trans to bolt up to the 5.0 I wouldnt need a bellhousing would I?

As for the tranny support, what do you suggest? In my other thread about the 302, nigel suggests that I can use the originaly tranny support.

And I already had my mind set on a electric coolingfan/radiator combo-ny suggestions on brands/models?

The first one is the tranny mount, which is actually an in-stock part at most parts stores.

Not too sure on the second one, but there's a guy over on the mustangii.net forums who has been doing V8 engine mount rebuilding for a while. I've seen his mounts and trust them completely. Fortunately for me, the mounts on my V8 are still good, and I think I have a spare set somewhere in my parts stash...

With a bit of bashing, the Milodon pan is supposed to work on a II. Most pans won't clear the steering rack or starter with the Mustang II bellhousing.

You could use the later 5.0 bellhousing, but it complicates things if you decide you want to run headers, and the AOD bellhousing (if you want to run an overdrive auto) will REALLY cause some aggravation unless you enjoy beating the heck out of the firewall for fitment.

I'm running a cheap Flex-a-lite 14" on mine. Don't know how it compares to others, but I'm quite happy with its performance.

Im assuming youve performed this procedure before blue_coyote?

Any chance you would want to part with the motor mounts?BTW, is the second mount from my previous post for a 302?
Sadly, I cant get registered at the forums-been trying now for about 3 months...still no luck.

is the MustangII bellhousing you refer to from the 75-78 302?

are you running the fan on the stock 302 radiator?

Ill attempt to find out what trans it is Ive got coming my way so I can be sure everything will go in.

Cool

I haven't done a conversion, but I've owned II's with each of the engine options Ford offered, and I've picked up a bit of information about them over the 20 years I've owned and loved them

Let me take a look and see if I still have the mounts and what their condition is. I know I have a couple spares of the dr. side V8 frame mount you'll need, and since I really don't think I've ever heard of one getting worn out or broken...I'll try to dig them out this week.

Try sending Tim an email. He's the site owner, but he doesn't catch up on stuff too often. It's been a problem for a long time...

Yeah, the bellhousing and related V8 bits are 75-78 Mustang II specific.

I'm running a stock V8 rad with the 14" flex-a-lite electric fan.
