Question 302 V8 in a 1974 Mustang II ?

Whos dropped a 302 into their 74 M II? Im curious to what problems you encountered and how you solved them because my cousin hs donated a 302 and tranny to my project car which currently has the 2.3L sitting in it right now.

A couple things I have heard about:
1.the radiator needing to be placed in front of its current mounting support which results in the removal of the hood latches and requiring hood pins

2.need the 302 mounts from a 75-78

3.need a different trans crossmember

Can anyone confirm/elaborate/or dispute these or add your own?Hopefully someone has done this before and can shed some light on my situation.

Put a couple in two ways. First way used a motor plate with the 302. The second we used the stock motor mounts and a double hump crossmember for dual exhaust. Used the stock tranny mount with the motor plate.

An engine plate is really a racecar item, its an alloy plate that blots to the front of the engine, and would require welding some tab on the sub frame to bolt it to.

You will need the small M-II bellhousing, and the 8" rear from your v6 car.

Its a lot of work, but will be a lot of fun when done

The small bellhousing for the 302 was used on mustang ii`s from 75-78 but they are pricey. there was one on Ebay bell flexplate and the spacer for $350 plus shipping. If you use a C-4 auto the standard bell will fit. I have put them in two other cars and I am also using one for my 351w in my 78 coupe. I had to clearance the floor with a hammer on one of the cars but with the trans and the carpet in you could not tell. I have had to run a trans cooler due to the tight fit with the headers and the larger bell causing less air flow around the trans but with the cooler all is well.

You will also need a v8 frame mount for the driver side.

Yes the engine mounts, oil pan, bellhousing, flex plate, and converter, Are all M-II items only, finding these items will make the swap much easier

You can make other stuff work, with alot more work...
