Default Intake question...

Was wondering if any intake manifolds will bolt up to the 2.8's besides the stock ones. I know offhaus or however you spell it makes one, but thats like, 500 bucks plus you have to buy their carb, which is another 400.

Would like a performance manifold, but at this point, im not picky. Thanks.

This is not what you want to hear, but if you want performance that is not the engine to have, Yes it can be done, but at a very high cost.

A SB 302 swap would put you light years ahead of the 2.8.

I dont want to go to a 302. I like the 171. Plus, Im not trying to get super fast. I just want a little more pep out of her. Also, I dont want to deal with the headaches of a 302 swap. Just want to know if any other intakes would fit.

There was a guy years ago now who custom fabbed a 4-bbl swap onto his stock 2.8 intake. As I recall, he did an ugly but effective job of it, too. If he's still on the forums at TRS, he goes by James S. Denton.

Other than that, the Offy is about the only workable option. It can be pricey, but its a good intake. Sometimes they come up on Ebay or Craigslist at a decent price. Oh, and you aren't limited to their carb on it. I've got a 400cfm Carter on mine, and I'm considering going with a Holley when I finally get around to dropping it into my 78 T-top V8 to V6 upgrade project. I really lucked out several years ago, and got the engine (with the Offy intake) for $250...on payments.

The 2.8 is a european design. I had one years ago, and liked it alot. Not alot of torque, but very rev-able. Racer Walsh used to sell some parts for it, as did BAT I believe. You might be able to find something if you can search a European site. Shipping might be a problem though. Or you could check some other forums for help. Their used to be a Capri owners sight years back that was owners of the Eupopean Capri & Capri II that used the same engne. Good luck.

If you can read German, or know somebody who can, 2.8 parts show up frequently on Ebay of Germany.

They used to be very cheap, but with the massive spike in gas prices over the past couple of years, these little V6s surged in popularity over there... (I'm guessing that's the reason, they are good on gas when tuned well, and I can't believe how much the parts are going for now compared to just a couple years ago when I ordered some stuff via Ebay in Germany.)
