Question 1978 Mustang Cobra II Headers

I have a pair of headers for my mustang, but I have been hearing some bad things about them. 1 thing is ,that since steel and cast iron have different expansion rates, the headers either come loose or crack the block from the expansion. Any advice?

There is never a down side to headers, they simply flow more air, and in turn make more power.

Yes the bolts can come lose at the heads that is caused more by unsupported pipes, than the cast vs. steel expansion rates. You can get locking header bolts if you are really worried about it.

The only problems with headers on a II are getting the damned things in there (Dynomax) or ground clearance once they're in there (Heddman) or price (Hooker).

Take you pick as to which is the easiest to deal with (I chose Dynomax, they're the hardest to find, being out of production, but fit the best once they're in there by far).

These must be some kind of off brand. They are just labeled "Headers - Mustang" and are shorties.

As far as I know there are no shorties for the M-2, and you want long tubes to make more power.

My dad bought a pair of shorties for his 302 in his pickup and they sent mustang ones. he is completely convinced that they are made to match the stock exhaust of my mustang. And like i said, all that i know is that they are for a 302 mustang...

Most likely for 80 or newer, not saying you can't make them work but I don't think they are for the M-2, If you do it, take pics and post them up..

summit racing and jegs both have headers of the II. The headman headers are $167. They have one tube that goes under the steering crossmember. If your car is lowered they could cause problems. If it is stock height be careful on speed bumps and they should be ok. I am using them with my 351w with the one tube modified to go over the cross member not under. THE ONLY STUPID QUESTION IS THE ONE THAT COSTS YOU. BECAUSE YOU WERE TO PROUD TO ASK. Good luck and keep us up tospeed on your progress.
