Default what tranny's fit '75 SB?

I'm not actually a mustang II owner quite yet, I'm looking at the car tomorrow, but honestly how can I pass up a $500 mustang? lol! Anyway, my question is, what transmissions will fit a SB 302 in a '75 'stang? I haven't seen what the underside looks like, ie; where the crossmember(s) are, but I'm hoping I can fit a 5-speed or something in it. What kind of manual transmissions came attached to the 302 from the factory in these cars? Are there any other cars that use them, or is there a cheap and easy way to use another similar manual trans (like maybe a 4-speed from a 3.3L I6 fox body)? If not, what's the best way to go as far as slushboxes are concerned? I'm a big fan of the C6 (my old '78 cougar had a 351W and a C6, what a fantastic car), but it sounds like it's too big for the tranny tunnel, how would a C4 hold up behind a mild v8? I'm sure I'll have lots more questions in the future, if I end up buying the car that is I appreciate any help or advice!

Any tranny that fits newer 5.0s will fit:

TKO, 3550, T5, AOD.

The important thing is the distance of the shifter, i beleive the 75s came with a toploader 4 speed, not 100% possitive.

My advice would be to check the full distance between the shifter and block and compare that to say a T5, C4 or AOD.

The only automatic that will fit without any changes is the C4 with the Mustang II-specific bellhousing, but the bellhousing alone would probably cost more than the C4 tranny to put behind it (They go on Ebay for more than $250 pretty frequently, as they're very hard to find.)

IIs came with a rad 4 speed manual which has internal linkage. It is a weak unit and wont hold behind a strong v8 for long. Like the c4 which 78stangtogo mentioned, it had a unique bell housing used a smaller diameter flywheel clutch etc. T5s will work and so will most any c4. The problem comes from exhaust. Running headers and a good exhaust system is a major pain if you dont have the II specific bells for c4 or manual. They are both still out there but again as stangtogo said they are pricey.

As for converting to t5 that is no prob as you can bolt it in. The shifter moves forward slightly and the trans mount/crossmember will have to be modified. No bg deal. ex manifolds will bolt on with no prob but headers are a prob without the II bell. The tko and 3550 may fit but there is alot more work and beat to fit in that project i would imagine.Ive never dont that although some others have.

as for c4 strength they will hold up fine behind even strong motors with a little work.
