Default anyone think a big block will fit?

Hey everyone, just bought a 78 mustang II. Very good looking car, (needs new paint job), but I love the body style on them. However its got a 2.8L v-6 in her, which isnt horrible, but I also own a 91 5.0 and i love the power of the v-8 engine. When i bought the car i was thinking mabye i could put a 428 engine from the old 67 GT500. However looking at the engine bay it looks so small, the fenderwells look like they come in way to far to fit anything bigger than a 302 in it. So i was thinking mabye i could cut and weld, but im worried that i may need to start cutting the frame away and start loosing support. So i just really dont know what to do. Has anyone swapped to a bigger 351 or 428 engine, if so how'd ya do it? what did you do for a new tranny? Also does anyone know a good site/maggazine to find rebuildable engines. Im taking auto-tech classes and we get to bring in an engine, and from what ive seen i couldnt afford a good working 351 / 428 so i figgured rebuilding is the only way i can go. Lastly, sorry for any mistakes in numbers/specs, i'm still a young guy trying to remember all the differnt numbers of the Stang history. And thank you for anyhelp you can give me, and reading my long post.

A stang II will need extensive modifications to accept a big block, you will need to remove or at least shave the strut towers and install coilovers.

My suggestion is a reliable 5.0 engine. You can stroke it to get more cubes.

Default Big Block II

I had a 460 sitting in my engine bay. They can be made to fit but it isn't easy. If you want to keep the inner fender wells, stock manifolds are all that will clear aside from having custom headers built. I was planning to go this route with mine but decided to go to a cleveland headed route instead. I have seen 427's and 428's in II's also. They had custom headers as noted and have been featured in several older mustang mags throughout the years. The Gliddens used to street race a 500 CI II's nicknamed the silver bullet or something like that years ago. I think it was originally built by Roush or something. Hot Rod has had a feature on this car also. Cooling this thing would be tough and hood clearance is also horrible. Good Luck.
