Default Will a new engine affect value?

I'm contemplating putting a new engine in my '78; it has a 302 now. For themost part, it's still in pretty mint condition. I wonder if doing so will affect its possible value down the road. Granted, it's not considered a true classic car yet, maybe never will be, but you know, they have a certain historical interest, too. I know nothing about restoring true classics either.
