Question upgrading 76 Cobra V6 to 302 Engine. What oil basepan will fit?

restoring, upgrading 76 Cobra (that had V-6) with a 1983 V-8 (carburetted). Oil pan on 83 engine is saddle type. Do I replace with ordinary front sump pan to fit? Should I refit with front sump type pan to fit in 76 Cobra II? I'll eventually find out as I may dry-fit the block, pan and tranny only to see where I stand with this extraordinary project.

I have enough knowledge to just to make my rebuild experience partly dangerous, and a lot more time than money.

tia,

Joe

I would guess the cross member on the 83 Capri is smaller. You'll need a II pan. I have heard people using a standard front sump 302 pan, but due to starter issues you have to use the smaller high torque starter.

I haven't tried it personally so you'd best check it out elsewhere.

Hi, I just restored a Cobra2, and it will only take a Mustang2 oilpan. The crossmember has clearance problems with other pans, and the starter is too tight.
