Question Getting a 77 Cobra II. What should I upgrade? Auto to Standard Transission?

Hi, i'm new and i'm going to be getting my first mustang, a '77 Cobra II, soon, probably by the end of the month. The body is in great shape and the most engine work it could need is a new battery or transmission. What I was wondering is a few things, firstly if it does need a new transmission, how hard would it be to change it from an automatic to a standard, second does anyone know about modifying laws in Canada, and thirdly what would you recomend I start with to get some the most bang for my buck?

Thanks, Ryan

Ryan,

Keep the automatic with a 302. The four speed stick is a weak piece that won't hold up under abuse. As for mod's, it's easy to make 250-300 HP with a 302 with quality heads like AFR's, TFS's etc. and a good cam. The 8 inch rear will hold up OK if you don't drag race it. Otherwise, switch to a 9". One big upgrade is brakes. The stock "II" brakes are tiny and dangerous if you are making any amount of power.

Ryan,

Did you buy the 77 Cobra II after and if so, just wondering what parts you decided to upgrade?
