Hey everyone,

I'm a newB here at this site. I recently purchased a 77 Mustang Cobra II and am going to be turning it into a dragstrip car. It doesn't have an engine in it right now and it is equipped with a 3spd auto. Was wondering what ways to go about the car. Was thinking maybe a 302 with some 351 ported and polished heads? what do you all think? What kind of tranny? I'm a total NEWB when it comes to Fords and Mustangs. Help me out please. If you know of any good things for sale also that would be AWESOME!!!

A 302 will fit with no problems, the 351 heads are a good choice, but you can also look for something better like Cobra GT40s Irons, or even some aluminum heads (AFR, Edelbrock, Brodix, FRPP, TRickflow). There are plenty of head options for the 5.0s.

As for the tranny, you can go with a prepped AOD (automatic 3 speed with OD) or with a 5 speed (Tremec TKO, Tremec 3550 or T5)..depending on the ammount of power.
