Default 1978 Mustang Leaking T-top

Ok I have a 1978 V8 Mustang II with T tops. We installed new weather stripping ourselves on the T-tops and wheere the door shuts. Ok well, on my passenger side T-top it leaks through the t top by the head rest area right next to the window, but through the t top.

Then. My windows don't touch the weather stripping on the T top for both windows. and lets water go through it. I have about 8 towels in my car and today afterschool, every one was dripping wet.

So the top part of both my windows do not touch the weatherstipping on the T top. It's not a HUGE gap but you have to look closely to notice it. We are thinking bout taking the t tops off, and now since the weather stripping has aged a lil (4 months) it's not as puffy so we are going to take them off and put them back on which will hopefully make my windows touch.

Also the water when it leaks throught the t top doesn't go around the weather stripping but goes through the t top and leaks in my car. We are going to Re calk it so that won't happen anymore.

But my main question is what would you guys do? Because i'm sick of it!!! We put new carpet in it too, so I don't want tmy carpet to get all wet and moldy and smell like the old one. ALSO just sick of having to worry at school when it rains and don't know how bad my car is leaking and am always worrying and hate when it rains because it leaks considerbly.

Thank you!

Not a Mustang T-top answer, but I had an 86 Trans Am with T-tops and similar seals as you described. Over time your door hinges can age and allow the doors to sag a little. TO make a permanant fix it may be time to think about replacing the hinges. Though, most cars have a little bit of adjustment for the window placement. It can be adjusted up or down a little on the tracks in the inner door. This might be somethign to look into as well. We did it to my T/A.

There is adjustment for the window on the door and you might have to shim up the weatherstripping where it doesn't touch the glass

Right here buddy! (been out for a few days because of some funky stuff at work).

Hey The Stang II? You might also want to adjust your door striker bolts up and/or get bushings for them from the HELP! aisle at your local parts store. My '74 coupe (not even a T-tops car) had a slightl leak on the driver's side at the window until I adjusted the striker bolt up and in. Just loosen the strikers a turn or so and move them up and in a little, tighten (vert tight) and try the door (gently, you may have gone too far, this is an easy, but trial-and-error process!) loosen, adjust, tighten and test again until you get the door right... also see if your hinges need bushings (I can't even remember if IIs have them, I didn't check because it was just a striker problem on mine!) If all else fails, find a body shop that specializes in older cars (preferably older Mustangs, as the hinge assemblies on IIs are carryover items from the classic cars) and have them check the door's alignment with the body and window frame, it may be off from sag and fatigue due to age.

One thing you have overlooked is the horsepower of your car. When I put my 351C in my car I started having problems with my doors not wanting to close properly due to the hp that the engine is making. These bodys has to be stiffened up. Just one of the problem I ran into.
