Default Mustang II T-5 5.0 Flywheel Questions?

Hi Everyone,

I Have a question regarding How everybody has done there Late model 5.0 50oz imbalance with T-5 manual swap in a mustang II? i Years ago now I swapped in a t-5 from my wrecked 95 cobra. behind a early 302 (28.2oz imbalance) in my 76 mustang. Everything has worked out great, I used the RAD Bellhousing, a modified piolet bushing, and the stock II flywheel and clutch. Now I am ready to install the 95 5.0, and Have heard conflicting info on what to do about my flywheel imbalance. I would like to use my II bellhousing so I don't run into clearance issues with my hedman headers. I have not been able to find a II flywheel with a 50oz imbalance. and have not had any luck finding a machine shop locally to rebalance my II flywheel. The best I have got is being told to have my crank, Dampener and flywheel balanced as a unit. I am not interested in tearing into my 5.0 cobra motor since it has an easy 20k on it. Any ideas? I may be stupid but can't I Add another 21.8 ounces to my 28.2 flywheel weight to make up the desired offset?
A stock Lowerend has got to be far from perfect from the factory?
Sorry for the long post.... Let me know if anybody has solved similar problems?

Thanks,

Brian

It's not as simple as adding the weight - it's a matter of WHERE on the flywheel you add the weight. If you put it off to one side or the other of the existing weight you could be out of balance. If you put it just a little to close to center or a little to far out from the center you can cause an out of balance situation.

If you can't find someone locally who can balance the flywheel properly, and you can't find the flywheel you need - then there is little left than to have the rotating assembly balanced. A fluid dampener MIGHT be able to take care of some of it - but I doubt it.

If you bolt it up as is, you stand the serious risk of screwing up the whole engine. If you add the weight wrong you have the same chance. Don't run the engine out of balance. Bad - Very Bad.

to keep the RAD Mustang II bellhousing your options are limited to either having your factory flywheel rebalanced, or using an older style crankshaft. The only flywheel that fits is the 12-inch 148-tooth 28.8oz imbalance Ford Part # D6ZZ 6375 A

Ford just didn't have any applications that used the same bellhousing as the Mustang II with a 50oz imbalance.

Some people get away with using the T5 bellhousing, flywheel, clutch assembly and clutch fork, but I'm not sure what all they do to make it all fit with headers (isn't a big problem with factory manifolds or so I've heard, I'll find out soon enough when I try to wedge a 289 into my '74 with a T5 behind it with stock manifolds.)
