Default Problem with a 2.3L Carburetor

i just rebuilt the carburator on my 2.3 liter 4 cylinder..

after i put it back together it started up just fine but i think i have a problem with my idle. Even with the idle control screw all the way loose it idle's at about 1500 then once it gets warmed up and i come to a stop it jumps down to about 500 rpm then runs rough for a couple seconds then jumps up to 1000-1100 rpm. Then repeats those steps until i start going again. It only dose this most of the time
though..sometimes its runs fine. idk what to adjust or whats going on..i think it may be something to do with vaccume? Have any tips? Thanks.. ADAM

Sounds like a vacuum leak, though your float level within the carburetor could be out of whack (try whacking the top of the carb with a screwdriver handle when it's idling high, sometimes Holley/Weber/Motorcraft 5200 floats just hang for some weird reason, I rebuilt mine three times then switched to a Motorcraft 2100 (involves a bit of fabrication and giving up having a choke, not worth it on a street-driven car) If it's not a vacuum leak or a sticking or out-of-adjusment float I'd be at a loss for an idea as to what it was.
