What kind of electric pump is down there?

Also, when you're having vapor lock problems, is your current fuel line from the mechanical pump hot to the touch? if not, vapor lock is probably not the problem, if so, try sheathing it with either aluminum foil (several layers) or some split fuel hose (what I did on my Chevy, worked like a champ) and see if that helps, you might also try to re-route your existing fuel line.

Only reason I'd caution against an electric pump is because Motorcraft 2100 and 2150 carburetors (which are what most 2.8s had) don't work very well with them due to the open vent towers (they usually overflow, even with a regulator and bypass line, I've gone back to a Motocraft 5200 carb on my little 2.3 just because of that issue alone.)

take a pic of the carb with the air cleaner off and post it and I'll see if I can identify it for ya. If re-routing the fuel line isn't a possibility, insulating it is a good option.

Yeah, it's the 2100/2150 family carburetor, they really don't work all that well with electric pumps (in my experience) I tried everything to make mine work right, including dropping to a lower flow/pressure pump, installing a pressure regulator, and running a return line before the regulator to cut pressure even more, the carburetor would still overflow with gas from the vent towers.
