Default 302 oil pan and pickup?

I just bought an original 75 Ghia w/ the 302. The oil pan was leaking, and was all beat up, so without knowing any better I went and bought a nice shiny chrome 302 oil pan to replace it. Many hours later I go to bolt on the starter, and what the heck?? It doesn't fit. You mean the Mustang II oil pan is unique? Well I'll be.

I could get a mini-starter to bolt on, but now I worried that the (unique) oil pickup tube, which I did not replace, is somehow wrong for the standard oil pan.

Any insights would be greatly appreciated - jd.

Not sure about the pickup tube working with the other pan, but yes, the Mustang II oil pan is unique.

Measure the height of the pan. I think you will need to replace the pickup.
