Default Steering Help 1975 Mustang II Ghia

When going around a curve to the left at any speed the steering wheel pulsates back toward the right...kind of a back and forth motion. Rather annoying. Any ideas before I take it to a mechanic? I also have a wheel or column rattle which comes and goes. I'm thinking bad rag joint...am I far off?

Yes, could be the rag joint, especially if it's 32 years old. But it could also be some worn or dry rotted bushings so check those too.

how is your steering fluid and pump? same thing kind of happened to my '78. turned out to be something sticky in the pumps mechanism. it also kind of turned choppy? i dont know how to describe it. but as your going hard over it would pulse like you said. you might not have this problem, but if i go hard over, and turn pretty hard my car would die from time to time. but its a 4 cylinder and the engine bogged.

so im not entirely sure, thats something else to check out.

Didn't notice it being choppy and it doesn't die out (mine is a 4 cyl too). Just that pulsing back and forth. When turning to the right I don't notice it at all. The fluid is not Type F for sure...almost yellowish. Is the Type F recommended and could the wrong fluid be the problem? How would I flush all the old fluid?

If someone put that power steering stop leak in there rather than the type F that could very well be causing your problem. Sounds like a seal inside the pump is shot, that will cause that pulsing.
