Default 8" rear end questions for my Mustang II

I have a 1976 Mustang II, here is the info on the tag from the rear end.

WDY-AC 6BC
2.79 8 249C

What I have found so far is it is a 8 inch 2.79 Ratio rear end.

My question is what rear end can I replace this one with, with the least amount of trouble? I am looking for a posi rear end. Open to Ratio suggestions, just want to keep it on the road.

Thanks

Check with the local boneyards to see if they have any Pintos, Bobcats, or Mustang IIs, all three used an 8" rear of similar width (they were standard in the II and available in the Pinto/Bobcat). The best overall street rearend to find is the 3.55 posi 8". It's durable enough for a V8 unless you're making some serious power (over 300 at the rear wheels would be risky, but most street-driven Mustangs are lucky to see that at the flywheel anyway). the 3.55s will give you really good acceleration, without totally destroying your great highway fuel economy from the 2.79s.

Also have a 2003 Dodge Ram (lightly modded daily driver/tow rig/office/dining room/home away from home/workshop... I call it "The Big Blue Dawg".)

Thanks for the response. No power here. Stock 302.

Thanks again.
